Bibin, it is a generalised concept, but not all that true all over Africa. Like in Kenya, yes there are a lot of Indian businessmen here who are the richest people here. Sometimes the Kenyans feel a bit angry also to the Indians as they feel we ar...

Beware of the intruders!

Hello Friends,
We know, this social net work of ‘ivoindia’ stands as a platform for the Indian ‘vso’ volunteers and the aspirants to share their experience each other and do strengthen their friendship for a common goal of a better world, but as a regular visitor of this community website I feel the presence of some intruders (Please refer the comment made by Mr.K.G Raja Mohan to Mr.Rahul Nainwal on 14th September,2009 ) who make use of our website as a raised area for their scams. The members o… Continue

Attention Indian Volunteers in Africa

Hello Friends,
One of my friends who has just returned from East Africa told me that the Indians are not welcomed in Africa even in NGO sector. They prefer Europeans rather than us due to their professionalism. Indians are considered to be money oriented not service oriented. He advised me if I choose to go to Africa I would have to select the country where the Indian influence is less. How the Indian volunteers in Africa would like to comment on it?

Thats interesting Bibin. You are the first person I have found who worked with the Naga tribes. You must be having good experiences with them. Going from South estern to North Eastern part of India to work! Just do write once into your blog regarding this.

Thats great Bibin, so you really can remember the words even after so long time! Its interesting. Hujambo in Ki Swahili is to greet one person, the reply is Sijambo. For a folk of people its Hamjambo, and the reply is Hatujambo. Asante is thanking one person, and it becomes asanteni when its for many people. So you are still learning! Anyway just enjoy your work there. By the way, which part of Kerala are you from? I know some people in Palakkad, although I have never been to Kerala.

Wow Bibin, you know ki Swahili also? How did you learn it? Yes, I am in Kenya. The work culture here is not bad, but people usually says there is no hurry in Kenya. Is not it interesting? I am working with a small CBO with the Maasai women groups. I am assisting them to get market knowledge for their handicrafts. They make bead products and honey and I assist them to give some training, exposure to compete in the local market. Its quite interesting and thats why its my third year here.

Hi Bibin, good to hear from you again. I am from Bankura district in WB, but staying in Kenya almost for two and a half years. So at least I can understand KiSwahili now! Good to know you were in WB. I hope you will get your VSO placement very soon. Keep on with your good work and stay in touch. NANDI.

Bibin,

You can apply right now. Because the asessments, interviews and placemnet process normally wuld take time. And anyways we are flexible enough to suit your departure time as per your convenience and other commitments. So would suggest yu can start the process now, therefore by the time you are through with your masters, you might have a placemnet in hand.

:)
