As you said that you wanted to share experiences, I am doing so, at moment I'll focus my experiences in working on gender and women issues. i feel globaly maybe east or west women are supressed, though the situation is bit different in the so called devloped nations. The place where I have worked i.e. India, bit of Asia and in PNG, women certainly are dominated in the name of culture, tradition etc, The situation is improving in India, as the constitution, and the legal support is becoming stronger.
When i had worked with Stree Aashar Kendre, the main work was providing counselling and legal assistance for the client of domestic voilence, dissemarion of information to rural as well as urban women, on various provisions right from local govt to CEDAW declaration, formation of women committies which worked locally on Zero Voilence, and Zero tolerance zones. Formation of Selp Help groups which is becomeing a strong tool for women empowerment. All these activities were support by various Donar agienceies such as UNIFEM, GTZ, Oxfam, Ford Foundation, we also focussed on linking up with Government Agencies as this is the best for sustainable development as the other projects are mostly for a ltd period. I'll stop for moment after hearing your expereinces i would continue sharing my expereinces at PNG. Bye for moment.

hi,
Thanks for reply. At present I am working in New Delhi as a program Coordinator. I belongs to Rajasthan and did my MSW from Udaipur in 2004. I have lot of questions about volunteering in African countries. Please tell me how is weather there. What about their culture. What you will suggest me at this moment before I leave India ? What are the positive and negative aspects of Volunteering ? Waiting for your reply.

It seem that it is difficult for poeple with didcation and commitment to stay at one place particularly when its not serving the purpose its meant for. I had been in this social development field for 16 years, and have worked for about 18 NGOs, my longest tennure was for 8 years with a NGO called Stree Aadhar Kendra, working on Women Empowerment, Gender and Voilence. Nice to see that our work area is simillar. When I was at PNG though i worked on Gender the Men in the community were my target group, the particular program was funded by UNIFEM and Oxfam Aus/NZ. Hope yu are not geting bored, so I'll stop for moment. Lets here from you.
I am fine improving day by day, the communication and correspondence with iVO is bit slow, never the less its clear, i.e. they would support me for three months since i have arrived in India, and with consultation with the concerned authorities it would be decided whether i stay as a Volunteer or not. So at moment exploring some openings in the development field within India.
It seems you are enjoying work, now that you have completed six months, how do feel, I know we are volunteers basically but it would be nice to know what is your main job, as for me I was placed with a NGO HELP Resources as a Capacity Builder on Gender an Human Rights, if you are intrested may sahre with you my work, as poeple were happy and said within five months I did the Job of two years, I do not think so. Anyway nice to hear from you, do keep in touch.
